About Robyn

My name is Robyn McKinnon, my husband and I fell pregnant last year with our first child after several years of difficulties with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I never believed that having a baby would ever happen, so when I found out at 6 weeks pregnant I was quite shocked. Unfortunately at 17 weeks and 3 days my waters broke which we now know as being caused by an infection, and two days later on 1st November at 10:15pm I gave birth to our son Adam. It was a special time as we were able to spend time with Adam in the following days in hospital before we let him go in to the ocean at a beautiful beach on the East Coast of Tassie where my husband and I were engaged many years ago. We plan to go back here every year for Adam's birthday, and hopefully share Adam with his future brothers and sisters.

Since loosing Adam, I have become aware of the limited support available here in Tassie for bereaved parents and families so I am really keen to see the program have a strong presence here in Tassie. To start if off I have organised for a general support meeting to begin on the 1st Thursday of the month in Launceston. In the future, I am hoping to expand this to other areas with the state, and to also have specific groups for those trying to conceive after a loss, as well as for other groups as they are needed.

Professionally I work as a counsellor for an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) in Launceston called Newport and Wildman. I have a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and currently studying a Masters in Social Work. I have a background working with young people and families, as well as working with people who have experienced anxiety, depression, sexual assault, grief and loss, relationship issues, workplace conflict, addictions and general life challenges. I have also been involved in developing a number of group work and training programs in the Northern Tasmania Community, and have previously been acknowledged through a number of Local, State and National awards for the work I do. If you would like some face to face counselling I can be contacted on 6332 0999 to make an appointment, and available for after hours as well as day time appointments (Check with your workplace if this company is your EAP provider to ensure there is no cost to you).

For other enquiries about the support group, don't hesitate to contact me on 0419 544 110 or robyn@pregnancylossaustralia.org.au  I am always happy to meet with you for a coffee or chat before hand as I know it can be a little scary coming along to a group for the first time.
